My name is Salam Djaaz. I was born in Bagdad. As long as I can remember I have been drawing. I visited the Bagdad University of Fine Arts and I went to the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Since my graduation I have an atelier in The Hague, were I live.
My Inspiration
My inspiration comes from two major sources: the old Mesopotamain/Assyrian culture in the Middle East and life itself. I admire the works of the ancient cultures, both the stories and the artefacts. Reading about is and seeing the materials inspire me a lot.
People are my other major inspiration. In everyday life people have toe deal with all kind of (difficult) situations. The way it affects them and the way they act upon it, is fascinating. It is what makes us human. I try to catch the essential moments.
